It's hard to believe, but Susan's days are dwindling down.  The Friends of Avoca Library are having a reception for her on Monday, September 26, starting at 1 pm. If anyone in the LIS department wants to go by, please let Christy L. know so schedules can be arranged.

Avoca Job Opening

And with Susan's departure, her position will be open at Avoca.  An internal job listing has been posted on the employee bulletin board near the Staff Entrance with a job description and qualifications.  Anyone interested needs to apply no later than Friday, September 23.

Our Service Area

Apparently a potential patron was told that she could not get a card even though she lives in Kingsport and works in Bristol.  She can indeed get a card.  Folks who work or go to school in Bristol can get cards at no charge.  Also, our service area is all of Washington County, Virginia (including Abingdon, Mendota, Glade Spring, and Meadowview) and all of Sullivan County, Tennessee (including KINGSPORT!!!) If you aren't sure, please check the notebook by Circulation.  This is something a patron might ask of anyone in any department, and it's important not to give out wrong information. If you aren't sure about a library question, then say you don't know and refer the patron to the appropriate source.

Kitchen Witch Awards

There have been a few questions about the Kitchen Witch.  While everyone who uses the kitchen is expected to pitch in and help keep it clean, only a few folks regularly use their own time on breaks or before to keep the place looking nice and, well, not a health hazard.  The Witch uses the honor system, taking note of who has marked the check list often during a given period of time. A person who has often taken on tasks is therefore deserving of a gesture of appreciation. Nominations are accepted, too!
