Happy National Library Week! And More....

Happy National Library Week!

We're half way through and still have lots of things going on! Kirstin will be doing a Beginning Genealogy class on Thursday (4/13), TJ will have a 3D printer workshop on Friday (4/14), and on Saturday Michelle will be flying kites at Steele Creek in the morning (registration is in the Children's Department) and we'll have a showing of the movie version of Matilda in the afternoon!  If you need details on any of these programs, just ask!

Also, Rebecca is running a promotion in the Gift Shop.  She has some lovely green library tote bags for sale for $4 or shoppers can get one FREE by spending $8 in the Gift Shop! Is that a great deal or what?

2017 Employee Benefits Fair

Need to make some changes to your health insurance, flex spending, or other benefits? April 17- May 5, 2017 is the time to do that. You do need to contact Human Resources to fill out the appropriate paperwork.  Their number is 276-642-2325.

Not sure and need more information? Wednesday, April 19, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm is the Employee Benefits Fair in the Bristol City of Virginia Council Chambers.  It's a great place to find answers and possibly pick up some free pens. (Or is that just me?) Anyway, LIS folk need to speak to Ambrea so she can schedule reference and circ coverage.

Sam's Card
The cards are coming up for renewal.  Please contact Brenda ASAP if you want to keep your card another year.  She also has some extra cards if someone wants to get one.  Cost is $45 per year.

Continuing Education
At last check, there are some LIS people who have yet to meet the CE requirements.  That's 16 hours for full time and 8 hours for those who work 20-30 hours per week. Those who have been here less than a year but who work more than 20 hours will have pro-rated CE requirements.  If you are having trouble finding suitable webinars or lectures, or if you need to schedule time to do those things, please see Ambrea. We will be checking on progress.

Boating Education
T.J. wants to remind everyone that the JCC can now do the boating tests!  They'll be advertising it more heavily in a couple of weeks as the weather warms up, but if people call and ask, please refer them to the JCC.

Condolences to Bill
As some may have heard, Bill at Avoca lost his father recently.  Services will be held April 22 at the Arcadia United Methodist Church on Bloomingdale Road in Kingsport.  The family will receive friends starting at 1 pm and the service will begin at 2:30 pm.  Please keep Bill and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
