Hybrid Employees, Happy Birthday, and Thanks!

Hybrid Employee Seminar
Hybrid employees may want to take a look at the bulletin board near the staff entrance for information on an upcoming seminar.  Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to attend you may.  LIS staff will need to see Ambrea so she can schedule appropriately.

Happy Birthday

Ambrea March 21

Thanks!

I certainly appreciated the cake and the card. Both were sweet but one was much tastier than the other.

Happy Retirement, Becky!

I think we surprised her!

All hail Becky!
For she's a jolly good fellow!

And a grand time was had!

The cake says it all!

Thanks to everyone who contributed time, effort, food, fellowship, and cleaned up after.  You are the best!

Finally, Jud wrote a memo to the staff when Becky moved here from Avoca.  It was a fitting tribute to her then, and just as fitting now.

From Jud:

"I want to personally welcome Becky Berry to the Main Library and want to share with everyone how difficult it was to tear her loose from her fans down at Avoca. Becky is treasured down there for her winning ways: for her ability to smile at people and call them by their first names. The folks at Avoca are terrified that without Becky, it will never happen to them anymore.

Why? Because, according to them, nobody smiles or calls people by their first names at the Main Library. And if Becky got taken away, it would mean the smiling at Avoca would stop....
In fact, I thought it would be useful to share this with everyone just so that we could understand what it is about Becky Berry that makes her so special to these people. I don’t mean to put her on the spot because she’s modest and humble, but I do think it would be good for all of us to realize the very simple and easy things you *must* do in order to make the library a place that people want to come to.
I can say all I want to about the threat of changing technology to the future of libraries. But the best thing to keep libraries viable will be people who treat the public like Becky Berry does."

Thank you, Becky.  We will do our best to uphold your high standards.  We'll miss you, and our patrons will too.  We wish you all the best that life has to offer, and we expect you to stop by often.

Harold Moore

As some of you may have heard, Judy's husband Harold passed away.  The funeral will be on Sunday.  You can read the obituary here.

We will be taking food to Judy and family on Saturday.  Anyone who wishes to bring something, please have it at Main by 11 am Saturday.

Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Fridge Cleaning, Mardi Gras, Smoke Free Campus

 Mardi Gras
The menu for Mardi Gras is shaping up nicely!  We should have lots and lots of food, which means lots and lots of leftovers.  In preparation, we will be cleaning out the refrigerator on Tuesday.  If you have anything in there which you want to keep, please be sure that your name and a date is on the item.  Unclaimed or undated items may be discarded.  Thank you  for your cooperation!

And in semi-related news, the dishwasher is now working again!!

Smoke-Free Campus

As many of you know, our Board is in the process of reviewing and re-writing library policies.  One which came up in the February meeting is that BPL is going to be a smoke-free campus.  This means no smoking on any part of library property, including all indoor and outdoor public and staff areas.  The policy will go into effect as soon as the wording is approved.

BLP in BHC!

 Bristol Herald Courier Article
There was a very nice article about our Amy in today's Bristol Herald Courier.  Also, if you were curious as to anyone's age, just read the article. The link is below.

Mardi Gras Party

Remember, we will be having a Mardi Gras party on Wednesday, Feb. 22, starting at noon.  The library will supply cake and ice cream. We'll have a sign up list on the refrigerator to get an idea of what others plan to bring. We may skip the King Cake this year, as Christy has already had baby #2.  We are hoping to see some of our Avoca folk as well!  (Yes, that is a big hint!)

Recycling, Mardi Gras, Happy Birthday

Recycling

Thanks to Joyce, we will now be able to recycle our plastic bottles and aluminum cans instead of just throwing them away!  She has set up containers in several locations to make it easy to recycle: Meeting Room, Conference Room, Staff Break Room, Children's Department, and Teen Area. Remember, the containers must be empty.  Thank you, Joyce!

Mardi Gras

Yep, it's almost Fat Tuesday time! On Wednesday, February 22, starting at noon we'll celebrate!  Bring any sort of festive food and we'll party heartily.  Library will supply cake and ice cream.

Happy Birthday!
