Spooktacular doin's & updates

Update to the Update on Ruth Graham!
Forget the note about the Ruth Graham event being moved to the Paramount. It is being moved to the VI Kegley Auditorium.  Tickets that say "Paramount" will be honored at VI.  Everything else is still the same:
Thursday, Nov. 18  at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
Reserved seating is $20;
other seats will be free as long as space remains.
For any other questions, please refer calls to Kathryn.

Haunted Housewarming & Halloween Party at Main!
Remember, Rebecca's housewarming luncheon will be on Tuesday, Oct. 26, the same day that Michelle & the Children's Department will be having their Halloween party.  You can dress up if you like.  If you don't like, it's okay.  We'll just make fun of you Muggles the entire time.

Besides, as some of you may remember, when Janice Crowe dressed up as the bag lady she nearly got a date!  Fortunately, Janice was a fast runner. . . .

Remember to be thinking about spooky food to bring for the party!

People News
Joan Hutton is going to be a grandma again!  The proverbial beans were spilled by DJ.  Get Joan to tell you the story!

And speaking of Crowe Baby, she was approved for her disability retirement. She's promised to come by and visit as a civilian, though.

Avoca Branch Library's Fall Festival

The Avoca Branch Library (1550 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol, TN) is hosting a Fall Festival Monday, October 25th from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  There will be an old fashion cake walk, bake sale, and silent auction.  Also, Granny Sue will be hosting a Granny’s Attic Sale.  There will be fun and games for children of all ages. Our proceeds help fund the Children's Summer Reading Program and other needs at the Avoca Branch.  Donations for the sale are appreciated.

Translation:  clear out your garages, people! Or if your garages are already clear, go to the sale and grab some bargains!  For more information, call the Avoca Branch at 423.968.9663.

Natural Health Seminar
Remember the Natural Health Options Staff Seminar is Monday, Oct. 25!  There are two sessions, 1 pm and 2 pm in the Conference Room at Main. This isn't required, but we want everyone to try to stay healthy and you might pick up some good tips.  We're going to have more of these health seminars.  We really don't want to see any more co-workers felled by illness if we can help it!

Library Happenings
Nikki Grimes, the award-winning author, will be appearing at the library on Monday, October 18.  This is NOT a library sponsored program, but is a part of King College's Buechner Institute.  You may get questions anyway.  The program starts at 7 pm in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room (aka the big meeting room) and is free and open to the public.  If there are other questions, the patron can call Dale Brown at  423.652.4156.

And finally...

The Thought for the Day:  A handful of patience is worth a bushel of brains.  (Dutch proverb)

Ghosts of Bristol

 Halloween Housewarming!
Rebecca Dunn has a new house that needs warming. . . the staff needs a party. . . and it's Halloween! What are the odds that all these things would coincide? It's an omen!  So dust off your Halloween costume and bring your scariest food to the library on October 26 for a spooktacular luncheon!  There will be three gift lists posted:
  1. What Rebecca's mom thinks she needs
  2. What Rebecca wants
  3. What we can afford

Remember, Bud Phillips is going to be in the large meeting room this Sunday, October 17, at three p.m. in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room to tell some Bristol ghost stories and to sell copies of his new book.  I hope we'll have a good turn out.  We'll have refreshments.  Invite your friends and family, and we'll get the ghostie and ghoulie season off to a good start!

Health Care/Wendell Potter: In case you have people asking about either a meeting on Health Care or Wendell Potter, that event is on Saturday, October 16 from 1-4:30 pm in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room. It is NOT a library sponsored event but it will be of general interest to the public. For more information, they can call 276-619-1920.

Ruth Graham: This event is drawing a lot of interest, so it's being moved to the Paramount.. On Thursday, November 18th, Mrs. Graham will begin speaking at 7:00 pm; the doors will open at 6:00pm.  Seating will be free to the public as long as space allows. Reserved seating is available for $20 per ticket.     If anyone has questions or would like to purchase tickets, they can call Kathryn (276-821-6148). (Yes, the Discovery brochure says "Saturday, November 18" but it IS Thursday.)

Happy Birthday:
James Estep on Oct. 13
Susan Wolfe on Oct. 14
Joyce McCracken Oct. 17

And don't forget that October 16 is Boss's Day!

The Butler is ready for the Health Care discussion on Saturday.

Introducing the BPL Staff Lounge

Here's a place where we can post news, events, chat, share photos and the like.  There will be quote or photo of the week, and possibly links to items of interest.

First up, I hope everyone saw the awesome letter Lee Rutherford sent to the newspaper!  If you missed it, click  on this link:

Let's be sure and thank him when he comes in!

There are several staff birthdays coming up in October.  If you do NOT want your birthday listed, please let Jeanne know.  Otherwise, watch this spot for good wishes on your special day.
