Nancy Neely

We all were saddened to learn that Nancy Neely passed away earlier this month. She was a bright spot in our day when she came to work with her young clients.  She will be very much missed.  For those who didn't know Nancy, Doris describes her best:

"Nancy was a speech therapist and children's advocate. For the last eighteen months or so she has been using our downstairs rooms for meetings and to work with young clients in a friendly and positive atmosphere as she put it. She loved the BPL and was a very vocal advocate for us in the community.

As a person, Nancy was one of those who just filled a room with her smile, her wit, and her passions. She was a tiny woman but just bursting with life and energy. She traveled extensively and loved books, music, and kids.  She and her partner, Tim Matheson, were active in a number of civic groups and charities. She and I had so many great conversations about books and life and kids, and she was genuinely interested in everything you said and made you feel as though she had known you forever.

Last summer Nancy had pneumonia that hospitalized her for several days. Once she regained her energy, Nancy was delighted to be back at the BPL and we were so glad to have her back. About 18 days ago, Nancy stopped by my desk and told me she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. She actually looked well and she said she felt positive and confident about treatment. On December 8, Nancy died. When I came into work on Saturday and found the note about her passing, I was just completely stunned.

I have attached a copy of her obit so you can see what was said about the BPL. I am sure there will be memorials because so many people really cared for Nancy.  I wanted you to know a little background on her should someone say something to you about her. I wish more people in our community loved the BPL and stood up for us as much as she did!"
