Bristol Pirates, Gatsby, and More!

Bristol Pirates
The Bristol Pirates will be visiting the Children's Library on Tuesday, August 5, at 10:30!  They've been big library supporters! From the press release:

"Each year the Bristol Pirates Minor League Baseball organization schedules several events to support the Children’s Programs of the Bristol Public Library. This year some members of the Bristol Pirates team will visit the BPL on August 5th at 10:30 AM.  The players will talk with fans and sign autographs for the children in the Food City Children’s Program area of the Children’s Library. Hopefully they will be accompanied by Dingbat the mascot!

August 18th The Pirates will have a Bristol Public Library promotions night. Each fan that brings a book to donate to the BPL will have his or her name entered in a drawing for a team autographed bat. The donated books will be delivered to the BPL by players the week after the event.

The Pirates organization has also provided free tickets for each child enrolled in the Summer Reading Program who has read 27 books. A second free ticket can be obtained by reading an additional 27 books. More than 4000 children participated in the activities and special events during the six weeks of the SRP with a significant number of them reading 27 books or more.

“Minor League Baseball has been a very important part of our community for many years. We are really pleased to be able to work with the Bristol Pirates to support the BPL and to give their young fans an opportunity to meet some players,” said Doris Stickley, director of marketing for the Library. “This is another way we fulfill our mission to build community.”

Pam's Gatsby

(Pam, maybe it's just me but I think he looks more like Elvis here!)

And one more item:

Remember when Christy found the Mardi Gras baby?  Well, it must have be an omen, 'cause guess what...

Yes, she's pregnant!  It's a girl (90% sure) and she should be out of "in processing" and in circulation in January.  Congratulations, Christy and Ian!
